| Notes | Ohio does not designate public tornado shelters. The state's advice is to know your own safe place before a warning: a basement, storm cellar or safe room, or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. Do not stay in a mobile home — leave for a sturdy building before the storm arrives. In a vehicle, get to a sturdy building if you can; if you are caught out, keep your seatbelt on and get your head below window level, and stay away from bridges and overpasses. In a school, office or shop, go to the lowest level and the designated safe area — do not use lifts and do not leave the building. Do not drive to a hospital, a fire station or any other public building once a warning is out: the drive is the dangerous part. |
