Does it cost anything to post a request?

No. Posting a request is free, and it will stay free. If anyone ever asks you to pay to post here, that is not us — please report it.

Does a service provider charge me?

No. Everything listed on this site is donated work. A provider may ask you to cover materials they have to buy, and that should be agreed in writing before any work starts, but the labour itself is a gift.

Do you check the people who list services?

We review every listing before it goes live, and we ask providers to state whether they are licensed, insured and background-checked. We cannot independently verify those claims. Ask for proof, ask for references, and never let anyone start work you are not comfortable with.

Who can see my address?

Your street address is never published. Public listings show only your city and state and an approximate map pin. Your contact details are shared with a provider only after you accept their offer.

Where do the weather alerts and disaster declarations come from?

Directly from the agencies — the National Weather Service for watches and warnings, and the OpenFEMA data set for federal disaster declarations. We cache them for a few minutes at a time and link back to the official record on every detail page.

Is this site an emergency service?

No. If someone is in danger, call 911. Alerts shown here are informational and may be delayed. Always follow the instructions of your local emergency management agency.

Where does my donation go?

Into running the organisation: hosting, the domain, incorporation and non-profit filing fees. The current goal and how close we are to it are shown on the donate page.

Can I list my business even though it is a for-profit company?

Yes. Plenty of our providers are ordinary contractors donating a job or two. What matters is that the work you list here is given free of charge.
