Volunteer Safety & Code of Conduct

Everyone who uses this site — asking for help or offering it — agrees to the following.

For service providers

• Do only work you are competent and, where required, licensed to do. Decline anything outside that.
• Never ask a beneficiary for payment for donated labour. Materials costs must be agreed in writing in advance.
• Pull the permits the job needs. A donated job is still a regulated job.
• Turn up when you said you would, or tell the person as early as you can that you cannot.
• Treat the home, the family and their belongings with respect. Take nothing that was not offered.
• Do not use a listing here to advertise, upsell or solicit paid work.

For people requesting help

• Describe the need honestly, including anything that makes the job harder or riskier.
• Ask a provider for proof of licence and insurance before work begins, and do not feel awkward about it.
• Never send money, gift cards or account details to anyone who contacts you through this site.
• Close your request once it is met, so providers can move on to the next person.

Safety

Meet in daylight where you can. Have someone else present if possible. Damaged buildings, standing water and downed lines kill people every year — if a site is not safe, stop and call the professionals. Report anything abusive, fraudulent or unsafe to us straight away and we will remove the listing.
